Cork is a 100% natural product derived from the bark of the cork oak tree. When harvesting, the bark peels off and is renewed again years later. Some pieces of bark even have lichens remaining, which add to the authenticity. The bark is a very effective addition to all aquariums, terrariums or vivariums.
It is absolutely harmless to animals. Thanks to the irregular surface, they move excellently on it. Reptiles often rub against it when shedding their skin and thus help to loosen their old skin.
The bark is very easy to work with. It is light, so even if it is released, it will not harm the animals. Cork bark can withstand continuous immersion in water for several years. It is very stable and durable. In the first years, the bark floats in water, and only when it is completely soaked in water does it begin to sink. If the bark is not supposed to float, it needs to be attached or glued, e.g. silicone or suction cups.
Cork bark is also used in horticulture for growing orchids and other epitaph plants. Plants can be planted directly in the bark or it can be used to create a spectacular flower pot.
